Experience

I have enjoyed 24 years in education.  I have spent 17 years teaching in the public school settings of both Gordon County and Cahoun City Schools, teaching students in grades K - 8.  Seven of those years were as a Literacy Specialist, serving as the Reading First Literacy Coach at Swain Elementary and the Literacy Specialist at Tolbert Elementary.  Experience also includes working as an ESOL and an ESS teacher.

My experiences in education other than in the public school setting include working as an educational consultant and teacher-trainer in areas such as technology integration and project-based learning.  I have worked through my family's business, Learning Labs, as well as my own consulting business, Technology Rich, and the Georgia Department of Education.

I began working as a 7th grade ELA teacher at Ashworth Elementary in February of the 2014-2015 school year.

Bio

My husband John and I have both been residents of Gordon County since childhood.  We are blessed to have four fantastic children.  Their names are Lee Thomas (age 17, student at Gordon Central), Heath (age 14, student at Gordon Central), and twins Lainey and John Micah (age 13, students at Ashworth).  We are avid campers and share our adventures at www.pbandjadventures.com.  We are also a musical family.  All four kids are actively involved in the Ashworth and Gordon Central bands, and they also play an assortment of bluegrass instruments.

I LOVE to read, I LOVE to write, and I LOVE working with young people.  I look forward to living the "literacy life" with the 7th grade class of Ashworth Middle throughout this school year!
