A note from our Superintendent:

"I apologize for the extremely late notice, but this just came to my attention this evening. The solar eclipse glasses we purchased for students were recalled this weekend by Amazon. While it is extremely frustrating that this occurred at such a late date, I know you join me in my desire to ensure our students are safe. Below is a statement we plan to release this evening:

Gordon County Schools was very recently notified that the order placed by the district was one of many affected by the massive recall of the solar eclipse glasses bought from Amazon; therefore, the schools will not be providing glasses to students to view the eclipse.

While we know this will be disappointing to students, their safety is our primary concern. We deeply regret the late notice for our schools and families. Please note that early check out is available with no penalty to students, but for those who choose to remain on campus, there are many classroom activities scheduled that will provide multiple learning opportunities for students throughout the day, and the schools will be live-streaming the event from NASA. We will still delay dismissal as previously planned.

Our primary concern is always the welfare of our students; however, we are confident that the teachers and staff in each of our schools will make this a truly memorable experience for our students, while ensuring every child's safety."
