·         Ashworth Middle School will host its Student of the Month Breakfast on the last Wednesday of each month. The next breakfast will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 7:20 am in the AMS Media Center. Students were honored yesterday, February 5th for the month of January.

·         Ashworth Middle School sponsored Coffee and Conversation on Tuesday, February 4th. It took place from 7:20 - 8:20am for parents/guardians to provide a platform to meet and to provide input for concerns/growth at AMS.

·         AMS "Road Tour" will take place February 11 (TES), 25 (SES), and March 4 (BES). Parents/guardians can meet with teachers between 5:30 - 7:30 pm. A hot dog supper will be provided after parent/teacher conferences. Mr. McClanahan elaborated that this is posted on the school website. This may encourage parents to meet with middle/elementary teachers at the same time; educators go to the parents.

·         Upcoming events at AMS are Valentine's Dance (2/14)

·         Staff trainings completed for Georgia Educator Code of Ethics

·         Lisa Pritchett provided a math update. Mrs. Pritchett asked the committee to brainstorm about ideas to motivate students. Terry Swaim suggested that students have the option to listen to music. Mrs. Beutel suggested that the school survey student to determine motivational interests. Mrs. Beutel also believes that parents are no informed; there is a lack of communication between parents and teachers regarding assignments. Assignments should be posted and made available on teachers' websites. Mrs. Pritchett suggested that teachers may need additional training for the new school website.

·         Literacy update from Andrea Salmon - Writer's workshop is in progress. Sixth and seventh graders had a more rigorous writing prompt to align with Common Core Standards. ELA teachers are collaborating effectively to increase student achievement and creatively tweaking materials by Lucy Calkins, which incorporate higher order thinking. She also commends all ELA teachers for their hard work and excellent efforts, which account for the great mock-writing test results. Final approval for the Striving Readers Grant will be February 20th.

·         Mr. McClanahan shared that Mrs. Murray has successfully conducted security training for GWA for the January 22nd testing and will conduct testing security training for the CRCT on March 5th.
